A patent filed by Nikon in 2009 has recently become public. The patent describes a specific way to attach your lens cap to your camera strap. Based on the comments in the PetaPixel post, it seems there are already many camera manufacturers using a similar technique. This patent will probably force other companies to think of  a different solution to this common nuisance.
