Presents for Photographers

With the holiday season quickly approaching, I thought I would put together a list of gifts for photographers. Here are 12 ideas to get your started, listed in no particular order.

Weekly Photo Links

We`re not able to post every story on our website, so every Sunday, we will list some interesting photography related links.

What you might have missed this week:

iPro Lens System for iPhone 4 and 4s

Schneider Optics, the U.S. subsidary of the German manufacturer, has created professional grade lenses for the iPhone. Compatible with both the iPhone 4 and 4s, the set comes with a case, two lenses (wide angle and fisheye) as well as a handle which doubles as a lens case. The set costs$199, which is priced significantly higher than other phone lenses we have seen. One can only hope the quality of these lenses makes up for the price difference.

Nikon Lens Speaker

Have you ever seen a music speaker in the shape of a camera lens? There are a few available on ebay as we speak. The one seen above is an exact replica of a Nikon S 55-200mm lens. While I am a little suspicious of the quality of these speakers, they are certainly a great novelty item for the avid photographer. Prices start at $20 and go up from there.

Canon vs Nikon – Lens Production Wars

The day after Nikon announced they have produced 65 million NIKKOR lenses, Canon made a press release stating they have produced 70 million EF lenses. Is it a coincidence that these notices were released so close together, or is Canon trying to steal Nikon’s thunder?

Lens Buddy Apps for the Avid Photographer

For the photographer who is always contemplating his or her next purchase, the Lens Buddy app keeps an inventory of all the lenses on the market. Available for both Canon and Nikon, the app allows you to keep track of which lenses you own, as well as create a wish list. Lens details include the type of lens, focal length, maximum and minimum apertures, filter size, dimensions and weight.

Behind the Glass Series

Here is the first video in a great series titled Behind the Glass, created by Vimeo staff. Anyone wanting to learn about photography and how lenses work will want to check out the following video.

The First Fisheye Lens to Produce both Circular & Full Frame and Images

Canon has released a new lens: the EF8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM L. It is the first fisheye lens that is capable of producing both circular and full frame images. If you’re not sure what that means, check out the sample images below.

Shot Glass Size Replica Lenses

New in the Photojojo store are miniature replica lens cups. Use them at your next party as shot glasses, or even around the office to hold supplies such as paperclips. They cost $18 for a 3 pack.

SLR Lenses For Your Phone

If you take photos with your camera phone on a regular basis, then these miniature SLR lenses may be of interest to you. These Macro/Wide Angle, Fish Eye and Telephoto lenses are designed to fit any type of phone, since they are mounted via metallic rings. You can get all three lenses for $49, or $20-25 each.
