365 Days of Clones

My brother, David Eger, recently completed his 365 days project in which he took a photograph of Star Wars Clone Troopers every single day for a year. In this post, we take a look back at some of the best photography themed images. For those who are interested, he will be continuing this project on a weekly basis. Act of Valor Trailer

It looks like many directors are turning to using digital cameras to film their movies, due to the high quality and portability of newer DSLRs. The latest Act of Valor trailer was released a few days ago, and according to PhotographyBay, the film makers are mostly using Canon 5D mark ii’s. We say “according to” because from watching the footage below, we were unable to pinpoint which scenes were shot with a camera.

Sometimes You Don't Need to Re-Invent the Wheel

Take a look at the following sets of movie posters put together by OhNoTheyDidn’t. What do you see? Dozens of movie posters with the same layouts. Why do they do this? Because they know the posters will be effective in letting the viewers know what type of film to expect. Think about how you can apply this to your photography. While it is great to be creative and try new things, sometimes using time tested methods is the best way to go. More poster comparisons after the jump.

Behind the Scenes of The Hobbit with Peter Jackson

The latest video diary from The Hobbit was released a few days ago. In this behind the scenes video, Peter Jackson and crew explain the process of shooting in 3D. Since the RED Epic cameras they are using are relatively large, they cannot be placed side by side in the traditional method of filming 3D. Instead, one is mounted perpendicular to the other, and through use of a mirror, the two cameras are offset at the correct distance. If you are at all interested in the upcoming Hobbit movie, then this video is well worth the watch.

Michael Bay Movies: Explosions vs Revenue

Maybe Michael Bay knows what he is doing after all. In the following infographic, we see that there is a direct co-relation between the number of explosions in a movie, and it’s box office revenue.

Transformers in 1D

If you are as tired of 3D movies as I am, then you will appreciate College Humor’s latest sketch. The following trailer gives a sneak peak at the upcoming Transformers movie, filmed in glorious 1D.

(As far as I am concerned, the only benefit of 3D televisions is that they brought down the price of regular HDTV’s.)

Even Audrey Hepburn Couldn't Escape Photo Touch Ups

Long before Photoshop, even the most beautiful models had their photographs edited before being published. These never before seen photos of Audrey Hepburn show how the original image was marked for touch up, despite looking immaculate. You’ll also notice that the final edit has more contrast, which is a nifty little trick to blow out minor imperfections.

19th Century Russian Portraits Updated with Celebrities Faces

Steve Payne has started a series of digital images where he takes 19th century paintings by George Dawe and replaces the faces using photographs of friends, family and celebrities. The results are quite interesting.

Is Nicolas Cage a Vampire?

Is Nicholas Cage a vampire? This photo from 1870 makes a pretty convincing argument. It was listed on eBay by Jack Mörd, at a reasonable price of $1,000,000. It has since been removed. Jack says that the photo was found in an old album and that all of the people in the photographs could be identified by name… except this one. View the full photo after the jump.

One Day On Earth - Trailer

On October 10, 2010 (10.10.10), people from across the globe worked together to document the events over an entire day. A trailer has since been put together of the upcoming film. It appears however, that they need help in order to finish the film. One day on Earth has started a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise funds, which will be used to complete the film. They have achieved about a third of their $25,000 goal with 25 days remaining. Watch the trailer after the break to see if it inspires you to donate towards the project.

Augmented Reality Cinema App Let's You Watch Movies Where They Were Filmed

An upcoming app is promising the ability to hold your phone up in locations where movies were filmed, and view the scenes from the film. I’m not sure how they would secure the rights to all these movies? I’m guessing there would be a limited database to start. Either way, it’s an interesting concept for avid movie fans who want to experience their favourite films in a new way. Watch the app trailer after the break.

Princess Diana's Death Photo to be Shown in Film Debut at Cannes

Controversy is brewing over an upcoming film, called “Unlawful Killing”, which will debut at the Cannes Film Festival. Not only is the movie controversial because it will show a real photograph of Princess Diana’s body inside the car in which she died, but also because the movie accuses the government of arranging her murder.
