Even NASA Uses Photoshop

Did you know that the photos you see from outer space are not straight from camera? Me neither. Apparently, it is not uncommon for NASA to enhance their images in Photoshop before releasing them to the public. Watch their editing process in the following video.

Employees at the Kennedy Space gather to form the shape of a Space Shuttle to commemorate the space program’s 30 year milestone. Watch the time lapse video after the jump.

Here is some fantastic footage of an eruption on the sun, from February 24th, 2011. It’s videos like these that make me thankful to be growing up in an age where we are able to see and learn more about outer space than any generation before us.

NASA Photographs Tempel 1 Comet

In 2005, NASA’s Deep Impact spacecraft observed the Tempel 1 comet. They also blew a hole into it in order to catch some samples (before & after photos above). NASA has now re-visited the comet using their Stardust-NExT spacecraft; a low-cost mission that will expand the investigation of comet Tempel 1.
