There are some things I have been doing for so long that it’s easy to forget there was a time I didn’t know about them. Layers Masks are one of those things. They have become so routine in my workflow that I could never go back to not using them. In this post I’ll explain what they are and how they are beneficial to your editing your images.
According to AppleInsider, Photoshop CS6 will adopt a darker theme (that somewhat resembles Aperture software) when it is released in March of 2012. I’m not sure why, but they have added a number of 3D related tools. We’ve listed them below. No word yet if the Deblurring tool we saw will be part of this new package. One can only hope.
It’s hard to tell from this video, but based on the crowd’s reaction, the upcoming Deblurring tool from Photoshop is too good to be true. This video was taken at the Adobe Max 2011 conference. No word yet on when it will be available. I can’t count the number of photos I have taken that, up until now, I had considered worthless because they were blurry. You know, the only downside I see to this breakthrough is that we can’t make fun of all those CSI episodes where they ask technicians to “enhance” the photographs.
It never ceases to amaze me how Photoshop’s tools are growing by leaps and bounds in terms of what they can accomplish. Introducing the new hover hand tool. Party photos will never be the same again.

Adobe has introduced subscriptions to their Creative Suites programs, allowing you to pay on a monthly or yearly basis. This could be a convenient option for someone working on a short term project. Subscriptions include updates to future releases, as well as online support should you need it.
While it shouldn’t be a surprise that Adobe is bringing it’s Photoshop software to tablets, I am a little surprised it’s taken this long. It’s a logical step for Adobe, as I am sure thousands of people will jump in feet first at the chance of using this software on their iPad, or the likes. (Did you know that iPad reportedly made up 99% of the tablet sales in 2010?). The following video shows a glimpse of the first 3 products to be released by Adobe for tablet devices.
Did you know that the photos you see from outer space are not straight from camera? Me neither. Apparently, it is not uncommon for NASA to enhance their images in Photoshop before releasing them to the public. Watch their editing process in the following video.
If you thought you were good at photo editing, think again. Erik Johansson has an incredible portfolio featuring photographs he has edited into surrealistic scenes. All his artwork is created using photographs and Photoshop; there is no 3D used. I’d find it hard to believe anyone could look at these photos and not be inspired.
While you may not need to correct lens distortion on every photograph you take, it is definitely a powerful tool when you need it. The following tutorial will show you use the Lens Correction filter in Photoshop.
